We're at a point on our political timeline and in the broader culture where partisanship is high and the labels with which we once used to categorize political belief systems and policies as a matter of simple description have now become weaponized as slurs in order to pit us against each other. In the midst of these forever cultures wars over labels, ie. right vs left, Republican vs Democrat, voters have gradually lost sight of their birthright: Public goods. Public goods are nonnegotiable in a healthy, functioning democracy and society. They are an easy way to cut through the mud of disinformation and distortions in politics and mass media. How? It is much easier to see what a politician as a matter of their voting record has done to either build up and support the maintenance of public goods—or not. These are simple matters of the public record that don't rely on whatever lies or half-truths a politician says in front of a camera or at a podium. Through the written word, podcast interviews, video essays, and more, I'll be exploring in depth the true nature of a public good, it's historical and current role in our society, and how we can conceptualize the infinite ways in which public goods exist and function in our lives.
